Objective and Philosophy

The globalization of economic activity is a relatively quiet revolution that has been sweeping the world and with that Economics has been expanding the frontier. Economics is one of the most prestigious and intellectually demanding pursuits of knowledge over many decades. EDU’s Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Economics program is designed in a way that students will find interesting, exciting and relevant. This program is aimed to enable students a good grasp over this discipline of knowledge with which one can systematically address issues ranging from national policies to one’s professional and personal life and thus be capable of affecting the lives of millions around the world. To accomplish the educational objectives BA Economics program provide the knowledge, experience, and opportunities necessary for students to demonstrate their attainment of the following program learning outcomes (PLO):

1. Intellectual Growth and Economic Citizenship:
Students will develop deeper analytical, critical and quantitative skills in specialized areas by applying economic concepts to real world problems by using economic models and relevant data analysis. Students will be able to formulate informed opinions on policy issues and recognize the validity of opposing viewpoints.

2. Quantitative Reasoning, data analysis and research skill:
Students will have in-depth knowledge of research methodology including data collection methods, using empirical evidence and appropriate statistical techniques for data analysis, to solve a socio-economic issue.

3. Communication and Leadership:
Students will be able to practice ethical and sustainable ways in their careers, and utilize innovative and digital techniques for effective leadership.

4. Professional Development:
Students will be aware of career choices for Economics graduates and maneuver through professional and academic growth. Students will have the skills to work as a team and lead others, and they will be able to navigate diverse contexts and career pathways.

5. Interdisciplinary Knowledge, Diverse Issues, and Global Consciousness:
Students will broaden their global and domain knowledge, and utilize their understanding of the world around them within economics and beyond, for specific regions, countries, organizations, localities, industries or firms. 

Program Structure

The program offers standard curricula that cover the recent development in economics as well as the areas that have traditionally formed the core of the discipline. East Delta University Bachelor of Arts in Economics is a 126 credit hour program. These credits are divided into access academy, core, elective, and general education courses. The total number of courses required for this degree is 39 (of three credit hours each), of which 8 are general education courses, 22 are core courses and the rest 9 are concentration/elective courses. In addition, the students need to complete successfully a research project of three credit hours. Credits earned on pre-university courses will not be counted for graduation. The undergraduate program in economics offers a concentration in Business Economics, Advanced Economic Theory, Trade and Development, Environment-Population Economics, and Resource Management. The general study courses must be completed within the first two years of the program. A student is allowed to do a concentration in one area only.

This scholarship scheme aims to reward those meritorious students who have obtained a Golden GPA of 5.00 in both SSC & HSC or a total of 32 points (Not lower than B grade/points in an individual course) in O-Levels & A-Levels. 

Scholarship Value: BDT 200,000/- (to be adjusted with the tuition fees)

Applicable to: New Intakes

Number of Scholarships: 05 (maximum)

Applicable Requirement for the Continuation of the Scholarship:

BoT Grant [during admission]

This scholarship scheme aims to reward those meritorious students who have scored a total GPA of 9 or above in SSC & HSC or a total of 30 points in O-Levels & A-Levels (not lower than C grades/points in an individual course)

Scholarship Value: BDT 100,000/- (to be adjusted with the tuition fees)

Applicable to: New Intakes

Number of Scholarships: All Deserving Student (s)

Applicable Requirement for the Continuation of the Scholarship:

Vice Chairman’s Aid [during admission]

This scholarship scheme aims to reward those meritorious students who have scored a combined GPA of 8.00 and above in SSC and HSC ( not less than  GPA 3 in either) or
Who have scored total 27 points (combined) in O & A Levels (not having lower than grade 'C' in any of the subjects).

Scholarship Value: BDT 84,500/- (to be adjusted with the tuition fees)

Applicable to: New Intakes

Applicable Requirement of the Award:

EDU Women Empowerment and Leadership Fund [during admission]

Scholarship Value: 100% of admission fee, tuition fee and semester fee

Merit cum need-based financial support

Up to 100% tuition waiver is offered to a student who has excellent academic records in SSC, HSC and EDU. Students apply for this Financial Support within a date prescribed by the respective office in a pre-set application form.  Please click here to access all service request forms.

Board of trustees-Chairman’s Outstanding Student Award

This award aims to reward those meritorious students who have obtained 

a total GPA of 4 out of 4 in 3 consecutive semesters.

Value: BDT4,000/- 

Applicable Requirement of the Award:

This award aims to reward those meritorious students who have obtained 

a total GPA of 3.85 out of 4 in 3 consecutive semesters.

Value: BDT3,000/-

In recognition of student (s) academic performance, contribution towards community and achievements in extracurricular activities the scholarship will be awarded.

Value: BDT20,000/- each (to be adjusted with the tuition fee)

Financial Support (Special Case: For sons and daughters of Freedom Fighter & Students from Underdeveloped Areas)

Up to 100% tuition waiver will be granted to 6% of the total number of existing students of East Delta University on a first-come-first-served basis. 3% of the quota is reserved for sons & daughters of freedom fighters and the other 3% is for the students coming from underdeveloped areas. To qualify for this Financial Support students must provide valid documents. (Other conditions may also apply, for more details, contact Admissions Office).

Fee Waivers for Family Members of EDU's full-time students/alumni

Sibling/ spouse of EDU's full-time students/alumni will receive 30% tuition fee waiver in all programs (not applicable for those who have already received other waivers or Financial Support higher than or equal to 30%). 

Applicable Requirement for the Continuation of the Scholarship:

Fee Waivers for Sibling/Spouse/Ward of EDU's full-time employee 

Sibling/spouse/ward of EDU's full-time employee will receive 40% tuition fee waiver in all programs (not applicable for those who have already received other waivers or financial support higher than or equal to 40%).
